I am currently out of the office on maternity leave until mid June. I apologise if this causes any inconvenience to your child care plans while visiting Fernie.

Please rest assured, if you have previously booked babysitters they are still confirmed.

I will be checking my email occasionally but cannot guarantee a prompt response.

Perfectly Popped Popcorn!

Popcorn is a great, healthy (depending on what you put on it) snack and before you reach for the ease of microwave popcorn (which seems like all kinds of wrong) try this super easy, perfect popcorn recipe.

I use it all of the time and it’s always perfect!

A great one for when your kids run in after school with their friends in tow.

Perfectly Popped Popcorn!

Cooking time: 10 minutes

3 Tbsp canola oil
1/3 cup of high quality popcorn kernels (organic is best!)
1 3-quart covered saucepan
Whatever your favourite topping is! (I like a little garlic salt – so much better for you then all that butter!)

Method

Heat the oil the saucepan on med-high heat.
Put 4 popcorn kernels into the oil and cover the pan.
When the kernels pop, add the rest of the 1/3 cup of popcorn kernels in an even layer.
Cover, remove from heat and count 30 seconds (be sure to do this – it gives the kernels time to get to a near popping temperature and then, once put back on the heat, they will all pop at the same time).
Put the pan back on the heat. The popcorn should begin popping soon, and all at once. Once the popping starts gently shake the pan by moving it back and forth over the burner. If you keep the lid slightly ajar so that the steam can release your popcorn with be drier and crisper.
Once the popping slows to several seconds a pop, remove from heat and immediately tip the popcorn into a bowl.
Add your desired topping and taa daaa, perfect popcorn every time!

Hi Morgan, Owie & Mar!

Morgan: Hi!

Owen: Hi!

Marley: Hi!

How are you guys?

Morgan: Ahh, good.

Marley: Good

Owen: Good

So, how old are you all?

Morgan: 7 1/2

Marley: 4

Owen: 4 ½

Where do you live?

Morgan: Just outside of town (Fernie)

Marley: I live in Fernie

Owen: I live in Fernie too.

What’s your favourite thing to do?

Marley: I like to play

Owen: I like to eat ice cream

Morgan: Ride horses

What is your favourite music to listen too?

Morgan: My favourite music is Shred Kelly.

Owen: SHRED KELLY!!!

Marley: Yep, Shred Kelly. I like the ghost one.

Owen: Oh, you mean the ghost inside my head one?

Marley: Yeah, I like that one.

(They then proceed to sing Shred Kelly’s ‘Ghost inside my head’. Shred Kelly are extremely popular with the kids of Fernie!)

What is your favourite thing to do in winter?

Marley: I like to build snowmen.

Owen: I like to play with snowballs and throw them at dinosaurs, fish and frogs. I like to skate.

Morgan: Well, I like all of the things in winter, like, skiing, snow angels, skating and making snowmen

Do you ski or snowboard?

Morgan: Yep, I ski

Marley: I can ski

Owen: I ski on my skis

What is your favourite run at Fernie Alpine Resort?

Morgan: Shakey Acres. I don’t mind though, I like both the old and new side. I’ll go wherever.

Owen: My best run is Falling Star and I like the Elk Chair.

Marley: I like the Elk too.

What is your favourite thing to do in summer?

Morgan: Riding horses, biking and climbing.

Marley: My favourite thing is to have my birthday in summer. I also like skipping rope.

Owen: I like to play around and drink smoothies. I also like to ride my bike at the jump park

What do you like the most about Fernie?

Morgan: I like the skiing the most. It’s a good place to ski. Did you know that there are some places that don’t even get snow!?

Marley: I like it because it’s a good place to live because you can do so much stuff that’s fun that you can’t do in other places.

Owen: I like it because I can play around in the snow and make snow angels and I like to dive in the snow. I like to draw in the snow with a stick.

Thanks kids, is there anything else that you would like to say?

Morgan: I love to ski Boomerang with anyone that I know. I don’t mind who it is. I love skiing in powder.

Marley: I dress myself. Oh and my Dad is working on my house and around the world my Mum is making money.

Owen: Wow, does she work in all the worlds?

Marley: No, just in the Fernie world.

Owen: Oh, my Mum loves to work in the Fernie world too!

Owen: …and, I like to write on paper and I like playing in the snow. The snow is my favourite in the whole world!

With Snow Valley Kids Services rest assured that an experienced, reliable and fun babysitter will be provided so you can experience all the mountain has to offer or enjoy that special evening out with peace of mind.

Our babysitters know the area and what kid friendly activities are happening at all times. We can accompany them to the movie theater, library, Kindergym, take them to the swimming pool, skiing or, if you would prefer, they can arrive at your accommodation with board games, crafts or play dough.

We can provide a list of activities that your kids can choose from and you can rest assured that while you are having the time of your life, so are they!

Our nannies and babysitters can be reserved upon request, so if your child has a favorite please call well in advance and we will do our best to make sure they’re available.

Fernie is a natural playground and there is always so much going on whether it be enjoying the great outdoors or one of the many indoor activities we have available.

There may be times when you’re looking for something for you, or your babysitter, to do with the kids. Here is a list of all things going on in Fernie.

Skiing & Snowboarding at Fernie Alpine Resort is an incredible experience. The variety of terrain appeals to all levels and they can get more snow then any other resort in the Canadian Rockies. You can see the trail map here.

Cross Country Skiing is a great way to see Fernie. There are some great trails at Fernie Alpine Resort (14 kms of groomed and track-set trails) or you can try out the trails within Fernie’s township. Want to bring the kids along with you? Why not rent our Chariot and cross country ski attachment!

Cat Skiing/Boarding at Island Lake Cat Skiing offers a world class mountain adventure. It’s life changing.

Sleigh Rides Evening Sleigh Rides Enjoy a horse-drawn sleigh ride along a beautiful forested loop trail at Fernie Alpine Resort. Evening rides available between 6-8pm. Rides last 25 minutes. $13.00 + hst per person Minimum of 8 and Maximum of 12 guests (ages 5 & under are FREE!). 30-minute rides are available in the evening for groups of 8 to 12 people. Private bookings, groups and campfire dinner options are available by request.
